Environmental Graphics

Visual Arts Center. South Padre Island, Texas

The mural visually translates sound waves into vibrant art, symbolizing creativity, rhythm, and South Padre Island’s dynamic performing arts culture.

Client
Challenge

Inspired by the patterns of sound waves of specific, important songs, the graphic is an attempt to tell the story of artistic achievement in a community that is woven together in a very unique manner.

In response to the dynamic shifts in their industry landscape and a desire to connect more effectively with a younger audience, our client recognized the imperative for a comprehensive brand refresh.

The sound wave pattern transforms audio energy into a visually striking mural, symbolizing the rhythm, movement, and creativity of the performing arts. By integrating  dynamic lines and vibrant colors, the design captures the essence of music and performance, creating an immersive experience that resonates with artists and audiences while reflecting the cultural vibrancy of South Padre Island.

Goal

The mural successfully embodies the dynamic energy of sound, transforming it into a visually captivating piece that enhances the performing arts center’s atmosphere.

The mural was meticulously crafted by interpreting the length and flow of musical notes, translating them into dynamic visual elements. Each wave and curve corresponds to specific note durations, creating a rhythmical pattern that mirrors the music’s tempo. This design ensures that the mural not only reflects sound visually but also evokes the emotional essence of the performance.

A 3-story etched glass elevator project for the University of Texas Pan American Education Complex. The UTPA College of Education hosts the largest bilingual teacher training program in the U.S.

The glass-enclosed elevator design incorporates bilingual etchings on transparent surfaces, creating a dynamic, ever-changing visual experience. The etched patterns represent the fluidity of bicultural communication, symbolizing the merging of two distinct cultural identities. This kinetic design reflects both accessibility and inclusivity, seamlessly integrating art and functionality while fostering cultural dialogue.

By incorporating both languages, the elevator becomes a symbol of unity and connection.
